Hybrid EEG–fNIRS-Based Eight-Command Decoding for BCI: Application to Quadcopter Control

In this paper, a hybrid electroencephalography-functional near-infrared spectroscopy (EEG-fNIRS) scheme to decode eight active brain commands from the frontal brain region for brain-computer interface is presented. A total of eight commands are decoded by fNIRS, as positioned on the prefrontal cortex, and by EEG, around the frontal, parietal, and visual cortices. Mental arithmetic, mental count...

fNIRS-based BCI for Robot Control (Demonstration)

Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) are playing an increasingly important role in a broad spectrum of applications in health, industry, education, and entertainment. We present a novel, mobile and non-invasive BCI for advanced robot control that is based on a brain imaging method known as functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). This BCI is based on the concept of “automated autonomous inten...

Reinforcement Learning-based Quadcopter Control

Analysis of quadcopter dynamics and control is conducted. A linearized quadcopter system is controlled using modern techniques. A MATLAB quadcopter control toolbox is presented for rapid visualization of system response. Waypoint-based trajectory control of a quadcopter is performed and appended to the MATLAB toolbox. Finally, an investigation of control using reinforcement learning is conducted.

Quadcopter control using Android based sensing

This paper investigates the concept of a quadcopter implemented using the sensors and computational power of a smartphone. The main goal is to give an example of the possible applications of external hardware combined with commercial off the shelf (COTS) electronics. Practical problems that required attention were implementation of sensor fusion using the smartphone’s sensors and the controller...

Calibration-Free BCI Based Control

Recent works have explored the use of brain signals to directly control virtual and robotic agents in sequential tasks. So far in such brain-computer interfaces (BCI), an explicit calibration phase was required to build a decoder that translates raw electroencephalography (EEG) signals from the brain of each user into meaningful instructions. This paper proposes a method that removes the calibr...
